Y.U.P. - Yövieraat

Yövieraat ended the long break after the successful (at least in artistic opinion) Homo Sapiens, which surely was a culmination point for Yup. Progressive elements have been reduced to zero on Yövieraat, and every song has achieved a sophisticated status. Despite the punk background of all Yup members, you can hear a strong influence of Finnish folk music on Yövieraat. Songs like "Alla Jalavapuun," "Gleb," and "Yövieraat" are acoustic-ridden and typically (for Yup) extremely ironic by their lyrics. For counter-balance, "Roswellin Kattilaan," "Luotijuna," and "Murhaaja Soittaa Pasuunaa" are pure rock songs. Yövieraat certainly is the most underrated album by Yup. That's understandable, because songs such as "Alla Jalavapuun" and "Yövieraat" differ greatly from first recordings. However, Yövieraat still is a great album from a promising band. ~ Antti J.
